The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the aircraft had 174 adult passengers, 10 children, 05 cabin crew and 2 pilots. Both pilots died in the accident. The plane landed at the airport around 7.40 pm. A spokesman for the airline said that the plane may have overtaken the runway.
Minister of State for External Affairs V Muralitharan said that due to very heavy rains in Calicut, the pilots could not make the landing first. The second attempt resulted in a hard landing. After this, the flight skidded off the runway. This is a very sad accident.
