new Delhi: Former JNU student leader Omar Khalid had asked people to allegedly involve Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in protests against the CAA to incite riots in north-east Delhi. The police made this allegation by quoting a safe witness in the supplementary charge sheet filed against him.

The chargesheet further alleged that in 2019, Khalid and co-accused Sharjil Imam decided that mosques should be the focal point of starting a protest. Services of Imams should be used for Chakka Jam. According to the statement of one of the safe witnesses, who is part of the charge sheet, Khalid reportedly asked to bring Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants to CAA protests to incite the riots.
The police said in the supplementary charge sheet that the incident of communal riots in the national capital during the visit of US President Donald Trump to the Indian government in February could have been nothing more than international embarrassment.
